Overview

As file based workflows are adopted around a production facility they become more and more central to the operation of that facility, any bottle necks or disruptions to the core processing to file based workflow become more critical. It then becomes necessary to implement 'enterprise' quality systems that have the qualities of scalability and redundancy.

The system should be able to linearly scale from a desktop application up to a system with multiple transfer engines in several organisational groups so that available bandwidth on the various source and destination devices can be exploited effectively. This will allow material to move around the facility freely and with minimum bottle necks.

It then becomes desirable to ensure that there is no single point of failure in the transfer system to provide the maximum possible availability of the system as a whole.
