Granby Patrick

Granby Patrick the founder of Marquis Broadcast had a belief and a vision that he formulated while working in product management for Avid Technology and Sony in the pioneering days of file based news production systems.

Granby founded Marquis to address two issues ‘interoperability’ and the integration of manufacturers work flows. He found it was not only the technology but the human interface with the technology that caused Broadcasters to not always gain the return they had sought and he defined ‘Operal’ as a methodology to deal with this issue. The company was formed in 1998 and has gone from strength to strength with relationships with some 14 manufacturers and a client list that includes internationally known Broadcasters. Granby started his career by joining the BBC where he was trained in broadcast engineering. After this sound grounding he moved to Sony to occupy the position of Product Manager.

Building on this background, and with his fluent French, he moved to AAVS in Paris taking responsibility for the design and integration of some major systems projects across Europe, among these were the EBU control centre and working for CBS at the Olympics.

During this period Granby began to see the advantages that file based production could offer and joined Avid Technologyto work in European Product Management with their new file based editing and news production systems. Granby specialised in the AvidNews and Media Server products. These revolutionary systems required detailed analysis of customer requirements, custom development of the systems and their configurations, plus the development of work flow procedures leading to specialist training.

Granby has represented Avid on many industry bodies including the IABM, IBC and Montreaux, and he also became a member of the International Project Management Association.

Granby has worked on many major projects for Marquis with a customer base including the BBC, Turner Broadcasting and MTV.

Granby is an expert in work flow and the integration of best of breed products into broadcast workflows.
