 BAYERISCHER RUNDFUNK,
GERMANY
 Marquis have installed
Medway at German broadcaster, BR, where it forms a universal media exchange
interface to BRs new production and broadcasting centre, Sendezentrum
Freimann (SZFM) in Munich, enabling media files to be transferred seamlessly
between various large-scale systems from a range of manufacturers.
Marquis began working with BR in early 2005 to identify an optimised
workflow for SZFM that streamlined production and broadcasting processes
without incurring compatibility issues between the systems.
The primary function of Medway within SZFM is to provide an interface
between the new shared storage environment, comprising 5 Avid Unity systems
networked with multiple nonlinear editing systems, and the rest of the
infrastructure, comprising broadcast automation, playout and media management
facilities.
Users can locate and access files across multiple systems. For
example, journalists can work with sequences of low resolution clips and submit
these for craft editing, with Medway ensuring that high resolution copies of
selected video clips are accessible and delivered to the appropriate
workstation from any location on the new SZFM infrastructure.
