Terra Mater Saves Space & Time with Project Parking

Marquis Broadcast, specialist in content workflows and media integration software, has announced leading Austrian post house, Terra Mater, is saving space and time with Marquis’ Project Parking, the solution aimed at assisting editors and facilities to manage their edit storage more effectively. Terra Mater, renown for for projects ‘portraying visual excellence and storytelling at the highest level‘ produces wildlife, science and natural history documentaries from its state-of-the-art facility in Vienna.

“We first started using Project Parking in May to help us consolidate and archive projects across multiple workspaces,” explains Michael Fröch, head of technical operations, Terra Mater. “It allows us only to archive the projects and bins we actually need and delete the rest. This cleaning, frees up valuable edit storage space, which was previously a time consuming, manual operation. For small projects Project Parking now saves us between 1-2 days in time and for large projects about a week.

“From the outset, Project Parking was straightforward to implement and easy to handle,” continues Fröch. “The team are very happy with the solution as it allows them to concentrate on their primary task of editing and producing our quality content.”

Project Parking enables editors to analyse all the projects and media on their edit storage by size, project, location, age, duplicated or orphaned files and then archive files to second tier storage, or delete unused media at the touch of a button, take snapshots of versions of projects, or move from one location to another, while still maintaining a usable and easily accessible format for future use.

Project Parking works by analysing all projects and media across all workspaces and allows them to be viewed in a user-friendly way. This enables the user to rank projects in the most appropriate way. This may be in order of total files size, number of files associated with a project, which workspaces the media is on, and whether media is off-line. The solution also identifies the location of any duplicate files and any orphaned media not associated with a project.

The new bin archive functionality in Project Parking, which Fröch describes as “particularly helpful,” then allows individual bins or folders of bins to be included or excluded in order to move media to second tier storage. Retrieval is also straight forward and can be easily achieved by restoring whole projects or just the required bins of an archived project for re-editing.

“Project Parking is the only product available which allows a complete analysis, archive and easy retrieval of all media projects, freeing up valuable edit storage space,” explains Ben Miles, business development manager, Marquis Broadcast. “Many leading post production facilities like Terra Mater are now realising the benefits of our exciting solution to help them save both space and time and therefore offer an even better service to their valued customer base.”
