Entire workspaces can now be backed up to S3 storage, whether ground or cloud-based, allowing projects to be restored to anywhere that’s required.

With the scale of shared storage and number of concurrent editing clients increasing so dramatically over recent years, the amount of ‘work in progress’ and the value of the ‘in production’ assets in the post production facility can often run into millions of pounds. Marquis Broadcast will demonstrate new developments for its disaster recovery solution for Avid edit storage, Workspace Parking, at NAB this year. Workspace Parking Server which offers all the benefits of Workspace Parking through remote access, plus Workspace Parking Sync which takes an exact copy of all content on one workspace and copies it to another keeping the destination workspace in sync with the source, will both be on show on booth SL8730 for the first time.
Marquis Broadcast, experts in content workflows and media integration software, has today announced the Danish Public Broadcaster, has selected Workspace Backup, Marquis’ ‘set & forget’ disaster recovery solution for Avid workspaces. The Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR), based in Copenhagen, Denmark, is now using Workspace Backup as a back-up and restore solution for half a petabyte, every day, from its three ISIS/Interplay systems.
“Previously, we exploited an in-house built solution, however, it had reached capacity and restoring projects was cumbersome,” confirms Gert Hansen, team leader R&D Media Systems. “Now Workspace Backup backs-up and restores our three ISIS/Interplay systems with 350 Media Composers connected and a total capacity around 600 TB.”
While the thought of fire or flood strikes fear into the heart of those responsible for managing IT infrastructures, the fact is that simple equipment malfunction, like the failure of a disk drive, or even human error itself, are by far the most common causes of local outages. Having a robust major disaster recovery plan in place is of course an essential business process in today’s digitally driven world, however, it is also important to understand how data will be retrieved in the event of more mundane issues too.
The fact is that with tight production deadlines few post houses or broadcasters could afford to start a project from scratch if their primary edit storage were to go down. As a result, many organisations have a significant vulnerability when it comes to maintaining business continuity.
